The Art of Enjoying Your Alone Time: Empowering Yourself Through Solitude
Welcome to She Thrives with Stef Barti, a podcast dedicated to empowering women to live their best lives and thrive unapologetically.
Spending time alone is an art, one that I’ve spent years perfecting.
I’ve always loved my alone time—it’s my guilty pleasure.
But for many people, being alone can feel awkward or uncomfortable.

It doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, learning to enjoy your own company is one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself.
In this post, I’ll share how I’ve learned to embrace solitude, and how you can too. Let’s dive into how I’ve made alone time a ritual of self-love and self-discovery.
This blog post is based on Episode 6 of my podcast, She Thrives with Stef Barti. If you prefer to listen, you can check out the original podcast episode.
Reframe Your Mindset: Alone Time is a Gift
When it comes to being alone, many people get caught in a negative spiral.
Thoughts like “I don’t have friends” or “I’m a loser for spending time by myself” can creep in.
But here’s the truth: spending time alone is not a punishment. It’s a gift—an opportunity to reconnect with yourself and grow.
I’ve always been the type of person who enjoys solitude, even as a kid.
I’ve always been able to find peace in my own company. But I’ve noticed that many people struggle with this.
You are your own best friend, and it’s time to start seeing your alone time as an opportunity to nurture that relationship. 🫶🏾
Getting to Know Yourself: The Power of Solitude
Think about it: when you spend time with a close friend, you get to know them better.
You learn their little quirks, preferences, and habits.
Well, the same principle applies to yourself!
When I spend time alone, I learn so much more about my own likes, dislikes, and passions.
Solitude gives me the chance to reflect, process emotions, and gain new perspectives that I would never get if I were always distracted by other people.

It’s a way to connect deeply with yourself and understand who you truly are.
Without the noise of other people’s opinions, you can hear your own voice more clearly.
You can listen to what your heart really wants and adjust your life accordingly.
It’s all about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, so you can show up as the best version of you, both for yourself and others.
Treating Yourself Like a Date: The Art of Self-Care
Another tip I love to share is something that may sound a little strange: dating yourself.
When you start a new friendship or romantic relationship, you naturally put your best foot forward, right?
You want to get to know the other person, learn about their interests, and enjoy their company.

Why not do the same with yourself?
The more I view my alone time as a “date” with myself, the more I look forward to it.
I approach it with curiosity, compassion, and excitement.
Whether it’s indulging in an old hobby, trying something new, or just relaxing with a good book, I treat myself like I would treat a friend—someone I genuinely care about and want to spend time with.
And it’s incredibly fulfilling.
It’s like a mini celebration of who I am and what I love.

It’s all about embracing your authentic self and bringing more joy, love, and power into your life.
If you need some help to embody your magic, I created the perfect self love course to ignite the goddess in you ✨“Unleash Your Wild Feminine” ✨
Rediscovering Your Passions: Hobbies and Old Interests
Sometimes, when life gets busy, we forget the things that once brought us joy.
But I’ve found that spending time alone is the perfect opportunity to rediscover old passions—or even try out new ones.
I often look back at what I loved doing as a kid: painting, drawing, reading.
These activities helped shape who I am, and reconnecting with them feels like a warm hug for my soul.

It’s amazing how something so simple can bring back so much joy.
If you’re not sure where to start, try thinking about what you loved to do when you were younger.
You might find that those childhood interests still bring you peace and inspiration.
Or, you might discover new hobbies that light up your life.
Either way, alone time isn’t just about being “by yourself” — it’s about learning and growing into the person you’re meant to be.
Talking to Myself: Building Self-Compassion
One of my favorite habits is talking to myself.
I know, I might sound a bit crazy, but hear me out! 🤭

When I’m alone, I chat with myself like I would a close friend. I ask myself questions, give myself advice, and offer encouragement.
The key to this is compassion.
I don’t talk to myself negatively or criticize myself for mistakes.
Instead, I remind myself that I am human, and it’s okay to stumble sometimes.
I speak to myself with kindness and understanding, just as I would with someone I deeply care about.
This simple act has made a huge difference in how I view myself.

It’s taught me to be my own biggest cheerleader. So, I encourage you to try it—talk to yourself with love and patience.
You might be surprised at how much it shifts your mindset.
Self-Love and Boundaries: How Treating Yourself Well Changes Everything
When I treat myself with kindness,
I start to build stronger boundaries.
I become more aware of what I need, and I’m better able to protect my energy.
I no longer tolerate behavior from others that doesn’t align with how I treat myself.

Here’s the thing: when you take time to nurture yourself, you also teach others how to treat you.
Can I get an Amen? 🙋🏾♀️
It starts with your own self-respect.
And trust me, once you start setting these boundaries, you’ll begin to notice a huge shift in the way people treat you.
You’re pretty much setting the standard by treating yourself well.
The Oxygen Mask Analogy: Filling Your Own Cup First
I’ve heard the analogy a million times—put your own oxygen mask on first before helping others. And it’s so true.

I realized that in order to be there for the people I love, I need to take care of myself first.
That’s where alone time comes in. It’s not about being selfish in a negative way; it’s about filling your own cup so you have something to give.
When you take time to recharge, you’re better equipped to help others, whether it’s by showing up as a friend, partner, or family member.
The Power of Practice: Building Confidence Through Solitude
I’m a firm believer in practice. The more you spend time alone, the better you get at it.

It’s not something that happens overnight, but every time you make time for yourself, you get a little more comfortable in your own skin.
It’s all about small, consistent steps.
You don’t need to be perfect; just keep showing up for yourself.
Over time, the more you practice self-love and self-compassion, the more confident and content you’ll feel.
And trust me, that confidence will spill into other areas of your life, too.🫶🏾

Final Thoughts: Embrace Your Alone Time
So, what’s the takeaway? Treat your alone time like a date with yourself.
View it as an opportunity to connect with the real you—without distractions. Embrace it as a time for self-care, reflection, and growth. The more you practice, the easier it gets.
Remember: You are your own best friend, and your alone time is a gift that you deserve to enjoy.

So, take the time to reconnect with yourself, explore your passions, and treat yourself with the love and respect you so deserve.
Until next time, I’ll leave you with this: You are unique, beautiful, and irreplaceable. Don’t ever forget it. 🫶🏾

Feminine embodiment & Self Love Practice
I created my “Unleash your Feminine Power” to help you really start diving into your own unique power.

In this course, you will learn to connect with your body through some very sensual movements.
There is no fancy choreography to worry about. I really wanted to make this as simple as possible.
The goal is to give you a somatic practice that you can implement into your daily routine in order to start embodying your authentic self.

It is high time we start prioritizing our relationship with our own body too.
Because in order to be truly happy and content in life, I really believe you need to strike for a balance.
That means feeding your soul, your heart, your body.

And this is the goal of my ” Unleash your Feminine Power“.
The beautiful thing is that once you start getting in touch with that fire within, it only grows from there.
This energy will go on to light up your path, simultaneously guiding you through life.
So in a way, it is your own inner guiding compass. 💕

Women Self Love Wellness Retreat
I am so passionate about women empowerment. Everything I do is based on this. I want to see more women embrace their authentic selves. Trust me life gets so much better.
That’s the main focus of my self love women retreat. In this Wellness retreat, we go deep. I really love to connect with my fellow sisters.
That’s why I only do small groups of 10-12 women.

This retreat is an invitation to embody your feminine and to dive into radical self love. Growth and shedding past limiting beliefs is the focal point.
We do this through various workshops, wellness practices such as breath work and lots of somatic movement.

As a dance teacher, of course we will also be using the power of dance and music to process, release and shed things that are holding us back so we can be born again.
Welcome to our transformational retreat where the focus is all on YOU.
Not only that, but we do it in style and comfort.

Our next retreat is in a breathtaking villa on the beautiful island of Gozo Malta. We will be staying in our own private villa.
And did I mention our own private chef? with our own private pool 🤭.

It is the perfect time to slow down and prioritize yourself.
