One day in Cappadocia – Solo Female Travel

Cappadocia needs no introduction.

Visiting this beautiful town is akin to traveling back in time. History lovers and architecture aficionados will have such a great time in this magical place.

This is why I decided to write this Cappadocia blog.

This itinerary will help guide you plan your day to maximize your time.

But first, I have to say that a One day itinerary in Cappadocia will be a very busy one.

If you are like me and prefer to go at a slower pace, this might even feel a bit rushed.

That said, I do understand that sometimes, there’s just no other way. So here you go, my one day recommendation after my own travels to Cappadocia.

Morning: Sunrise Magic and Breakfast

Rise and Shine my lovelies!

Cappadocia packs a lot so it’s time to pick up the pace. Today you are starting with what is often the main reason of most people’s visit.

And that is the famous Cappadocia Hot Air Balloon Ride.

Hot Air Balloon Ride

You cannot come to Cappadocia and not do a Hot air Balloon Ride.

It is often one of the first thing you will do anyways. The town follows a sort of natural rhythm.

Those beautiful Balloon rides tend to happen early in the morning. This is because that’s when the weather is the most stable.

So expect a sunrise morning ride. And also they make for beautiful pictures.

I’m not going to lie.

It was very hard to wake up at 4:00 AM for the bus pick up time of 5:00 AM. As you can imagine, people weren’t too chatty in that bus ride. 🤭

super quiet ride 🙂

This will most likely be the highlight of your time in Cappadocia, so don’t miss this and allow for flexibility.

Savvy Traveler Tip: I recommend giving yourself an additional morning open in your schedule. This is in the event of cancellation due to bad weather and bad flying conditions.

Tips for booking and preparing for the ride

  • Dress Warmly. Do trust this Canadian girl because it does get cold up there.
  • If you can afford it, splurge for a pricier tour with less people and a more intimate feel.

I did feel a bit crammed in our balloon. I still had a great time and our captain was so kind and professional.

But knowing that this is something I was only going to do once, I would have definitely splurged and gotten a more private tour.

  • There is plenty of time to take those beautiful pictures before and after the tour.
  • Bring a portable light with you for the best pictures

Absolutely magical

When you arrive on the site, the crew will be busy inflating everything and getting ready. So that gives you plenty of time to have your own photoshoot.

I did find it a bit dark since it wasn’t even 6 am yet. So perhaps a little compact light would be a good add-on for the best pictures.

Breakfast in Göreme

There are so many places for you to go have breakfast. But I do recommend, you check out your own hotel’s breakfast. They all seem to offer the classic Turkish display breakfast.

I really liked my own hotel’s breakfast, Sato Cave.

Do try different things on the menu even if they are new to you. You never know what you might love.

Besides, that’s half the fun of traveling, discovering and stepping out of your comfort zone.

Some items you can expect to find are menemen, simit, local fresh breads, and many types of jams.

Mid-Morning: Exploring Fairy Chimneys Valleys and Open Air Museums

I won’t lie but I was already exhausted after my early Balloon escapade.

Like I said before, I usually like to travel slow but here are a few recommendations for you if you like to travel at the speed of light and still have so much energy 🙂

Recommendations:

  • Visit Pasabag (Monk’s Valley):
    • This is a place where you can admire those beautiful fairy chimneys and unique rock formations a little bit more up-close.

Don’t feel bad if you decide to skip this. There are lots of fairy chimneys and multiple rock formations spread throughout Goreme. So don’t let FOMO get the best of you 🙃

  • Hike Through Love Valley:
    • This is a nice place to go hiking. You can also choose to do a horse riding tour through the Love Valley.
    • I saw many people do the horse riding and it really looked lovely. But that is definitely something I recommend only if you are spending more than a day in Cappadocia.
  • Visit the Göreme Open-Air Museum
  • Explore Uchisar Castle

For more history time, make your way to those spots.

You will have plenty of options if you can’t get enough of those rock-cut churches, castles and panoramic views of Cappadocia

Lunch: Local Delights and Scenic Views

Stroll around to see which restaurants you would want to try. There are quite a few international options along with many local restaurants.

I ended having lunch at a little restaurant that seemed inviting. I really liked the food there.

You can eat the typical Turkish food such as Kebabs, Pide, Gozleme which is a Turkish turnover and of course some baklava.

You can also choose to dine with a view on a beautiful terrace in Goreme. But we were feeling a little bit cold as it was April and chose our beautiful indoor table instead.

Late Afternoon: Relaxation and Souvenir Shopping

Now is the time to relax a bit. I recommend you make a little stop for some afternoon tea. Where you can have a nice Turkish Baklava along with some local tea.

This is also a great time to pick up a few unique souvenirs to bring back home.

shopping in Cappadocia

Turkiye is a shopping mecca. There is so much gems to find.

Things like pottery, carpets, beautiful handmade dishes, local crafts, jewelries. Have fun and check the markets.

  • Relaxing Tea or Coffee Break
  • Souvenir Shopping

Evening: Sunset and Dinner

Now is finally time to truly unwind. You’ve deserved it after such a crazy day of sightseeing 🤭

It’s time to watch the beautiful sunset, before you leave the beautiful Cappadocia.

Love Valley

I went to the Love Valley right before sunset. There is a tea house and a couple other stands where you can get a coffee or tea.

Don’t except any big restaurants or anything fancy up there. But the sunset view is absolutely magical.

Conclusion

This concludes this One Day Cappadocia Itinerary. I hope you found it useful. And know that it can be done.

Cappadocia is a very unique place in the world and I am so excited for you to go out there and explore it on your own.
