8 Best Sunny Destinations for Canadians and Americans to Escape Winter
This one is for my fellow Canadians and Americans who live higher up in the northern hemisphere.
I know exactly how it feels. You’re not alone!
Yes, It is very cold out there and you just realize that there is no end in sigh. Winter is just getting started or you’re in the middle of it all.
Regardless, you’re so over it and can use a little getaway vacation somewhere warm in order to break the winter curse.
Well, look no further!
Here is a little list I’ve put together to inspire your next winter getaway and get some much needed sunshine.
Mexico

Yes! You and I both saw this one coming.
Looking for a one shop stop? Look no further as Mexico is the answer to all your prayers.

I truly believe that Mexico is extremely underrated and under utilize. People just don’t realize how truly amazing Mexico is. For example, like most, we’ve always dreamt of far away destinations until Mexico’s beauty and charm finally swept us off our feet.

In case, you were not at all thinking about Mexico, just give it a serious thought and I promise that you won’t be disappointed. Yes I know that I am starting to sound like a sales agent now but, I swear this place has it all.
Looking for amazing food? Check!
Culture and affordable prices? Also Check!
Oh wait a minute, need your fix of sunshine and beaches? Yep, you get it! Mexico to the rescue again.

Moreover, there is obviously so much more than Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. If you’re not into beaches, well you can easily spend your time in Mexico city, Guadalajara, Guanajuato, Oaxaca -I could go on forever…- and have the best time of your life exploring the capital city.
Florida

Canadians really need no introduction to Florida. The most southern tip of The United States of America has been a staple with our snowbirds for a very long time.

It is a particularly attractive option due to the accessibility. Canadians or Americans don’t need to take the plane. Many people chose to pack their RVs or rent a long term apartment.
The Keys
My love affair with Mexico knows no limit. But you’ve heard it all now and looking for something else?
The Florida keys is just an absolute beauty. Yes I know that we’ve already mentioned Florida. Yet, I still feel that The keys are a distinct place, even if they are technically part of Florida.
The reality is that most people just don’t ever make it this far. If you choose to go there, you will be pleasantly rewarded by the deepest shade of blue and the unique culture.
Cuba
This one is another classic in the Canadian snowbird’s book. Depending on the political atmosphere at a given time, it might be a bit harder for Americans to make it there.
That said, if you find a way or determined to go, it can be a rewarding place. Also checks the mark if you’re looking for something a little be more raw and rough around the edges.
The Entire Caribbean Region

There are way too many options here for me to single one out in particular. Yes I’m very aware that Cuba is also part of the Caribbean.
That said the rest of the Caribbean can also be a nice area to escape from the harsh winter. You have the Dominican Republic with great infrastructure in place for expats and tourists alike.

There’s also the smaller islands such as St Kitts, St Lucia and St Martin that could make a great option for you.
In case you’re looking to splurge a bit more. I totally recommend the beautiful island of St Barts which is definitely more expensive but feels a bit more exclusive.
Go on a Caribbean Cruise

While we’re talking about the Caribbean, if you feel overwhelmed by the options and cannot make up your mind, why not go on a cruise?

They are such a god option. Here on this blog, we are totally cruise obsessed and would like you to give it a try in case you need some convincing.
They really have it all. You will be well fed while getting the chance to visit many beautiful islands without having to worry about the logistics. Seriously though, the food selection is out of this world along with the entertainment.

There is a reason that people tend to get totally addicted to cruising. Give it a chance, if you haven’t already, and you’ll see for yourself.
Morocco
Not really in a beach vacation mood? But still would love something that will rock your socks off?
Well Morocco might be the right fit for you.
Now this is a great option if you are looking for something a bit more exotic. This place has so much to offer and can definitely be a trip of a lifetime.
What better way to spend your winter this year? Yes it is a bit further than heading down to the Caribbean. That said, the flight isn’t that substantially longer. If you’re coming from the East Coast, you can touch down on Moroccan soil in 6 hours ish.
Not too bad! And it might just exactly be the escape you need.
Colombia
Now back to the American Continent.
Colombia has slowly been gaining traction in recent years and rightfully so.
As the country has been working really hard to erase its previous reputation and getting a grip over its safety issues, the tourists are slowly starting to flock to this beautiful country. Colombia is also what I consider a one stop place. You can go to the beach, go hiking and have many unique adventures right there on this gem of a country.
Conclusion
I know that winter can get the best out of us. It doesn’t matter whether you love it or hate it, it can get demoralizing.
Just know that the world is your oyster and you’re only truly one flight or one road trip away from getting a much needed break.
