15 Ways Women Can Increase Their self-worth Through Dance
The thing with self worth is that it is just like a muscle.
The more you work on it the better it gets. I am a firm advocate for women wellness. Also because of the fact that I am a dance instructor.
I always want to make sure to do my best to help other women increase their self esteem. And what most people don’t understand is that dance is such a powerful medium for you to work on yourself.
If you are a women looking to improve your self esteem, this is the perfect blog for you.
I really hope this makes you start being curious about exploring the world of dance and all the perks it can bring to your life.

Dance forces you to be in the moment
The main reason why I love dancing so much is that it forces me to be in the moment. It is perfect for you if you are an over thinker.
You don’t really have any other choice. You really have to use all your muscle power in order to understand a new dance move and also memorize it
Dancing gets you out of your comfort zone

That is such an understatement.
The more you find yourself crushing limiting self-beliefs and doing things you never thought you were able to do, the more your confidence increases.
And dance does exactly that for you.
You will never get bored and you will never run out of material to learn.
The reason why it’s impossible for you to ever get bored is because there are simply way too many dance styles, teachers and content to consume.
All this to say that you will definitely get out of your comfort zone.
There are also tons of dance retreats that you can go on. This offers a great opportunity to explore yourself while also traveling to a new place.
My upcoming dance retreat in Minorca is the perfect opportunity for self exploration.

Dancing makes you see the beauty in the small things

on my next choreography
This is another favourite of mine.
As a dance instructor who teaches various styles such as afro beats, afro contemporary, reggae, various folk dancing, percussion and much more, I love how dancing really makes me see the beauty in everything.
The more you dance, the more you will start noticing beauty in various things and even the seemingly insignificant ones.
Dancing forces you to slow down
The same way that dancing forces you to be in the present moment, it also makes you slow down.
Once again, it is because the devil is in the detail.
When you are working on a choreography or even when you are just dancing just for fun, you need to be attentive which often means that you have to slow down.
Dancing can help improve your body confidence

I am always happy to see how much positive impact dance has on a woman.
There is no doubt it helps increase a woman’s self esteem and also body confidence.
I teach various dance classes and lately I can notice the positive change after my Divine feminine ecstatic dance workshop at the wellness studio.
after I am done teaching my dance classes, the ladies look so much happier and so proud of themselves.
That’s because they are often pushed out of their comfort zone and it expands the concept of what they can accomplish.
Dancing increases your feminine energy

Now of course dancing is not only for women but since this is mostly a women blog, I am focusing on the women’s perspective.
That said, dancing is such a powerful force to increase your feminine energy.
Because we are all unique, when you dance, we all have our own way of interpreting and adapting each movement.
So in other words, you make it your own. This creates the perfect medium to showcase your unique identity and creativity.
Celebrating your individuality

We spend way too much time tearing ourselves down.
Also way too much emphasis on reminding people that they don’t fit in or that they are different.
That’s why I love how dance offers a perfect channel to celebrate one another along with our unique quirks, body types, and the various ways that we move.
Dancing soothes your nervous system
As a dance teacher and someone who’s been dancing for the past 29 years, dancing has always been an integral part of my life.
I am always dancing.
I go extra hard on those days where I feel under the weather.
Dancing always successfully improves my mood.
You can also use it in somatic healing as a method to release trauma and help you get through difficult times.
Increases your happiness
In case this wasn’t obvious now, well let me reiterate it for you.
Dancing brings so much happiness.
It’s insane. It is such an easy, quick and inexpensive way to boost your brain and get a quick endorphins rush.
This has been backed by science that the melody along with the feel good isn’t just hearsay but it is actually a tangible reaction that can actually be seen in the brain. ( include source)
I also recorded this podcast that goes extensively into the topic of increasing your overall happiness in life. Go give it a listen if you’re all about optimizing your life like I am.
Dance helps with self-validation
You will be hard press to find something else that increases your sense of achievement while simultaneously being tremendous fun.
I think this is because when it comes to dancing, no one can do it for you.
You have no choice but to step up for yourself. Because at the end of the day, no one can do the dance for you.
Yes you can get help and support but at the end, it’s you that has to move your body and overcome your own limiting beliefs.
Makes you more self reliant ( autonomy)
On the same token, because you have to step up and show up for yourself, your self reliance will increase.
So many things in life are all about practice.
The more you do something the better you become at it. And this is no different when it comes t dancing.
Connection with your fellow dancers

This is one of my favourite things that happens in dance.
I see this every day through teaching.
Our modern society places a tremendous value on individuality which indeed has its merit.
I am all for each person expressing their creativity, which dance helps to do.
The only problem is that we lack connectivity and a deep sense of community.
I think these are important things that play a role in increasing our sense of self worth.
Increased sense of belonging

Think about it for a minute.
When you find yourself in a group of people like you, it is extremely comforting.
Not only that but it also makes you realize that you are not alone. That you’re not a freak.
you feel seen.
Again, this boosts your sense of belonging and confidence.
An amazing way to lose weight

Now let’s tackle the elephant in the room.
If you are looking to lose weight, you will be hard pressed to find a better way to do it without the pressure and maximum fun.
People always think that they have to be at the gym and punish themselves.
I am here to tell you that you do not have to run on the treadmill endlessly in order to lose weight.
So if you already love dancing, why not use it as a way for you to help get rid of those unwanted pounds?
Offers a fun workout
On the same token, even if you are not necessarily looking to lose weight, we all need to get regular cardiovascular activity.
And dance is great for that. There are so many types of dances that you can choose from so it keeps you on your toes and always learning new things.
I also have a Youtube video giving you more ideas and reasons for dancing.
