How to Show Up When No One is Watching: Embracing the Early Stages of Your Journey
Welcome to She Thrives with Stef Barti, a podcast dedicated to empowering women to live their best lives and thrive unapologetically.
This blog post is based on Episode 28 of my podcast, She Thrives with Stef Barti. If you prefer to listen, you can check out the original podcast episode.
Starting something new can be exciting, but also challenging—especially when you’re putting in the effort without immediate recognition.
In today’s world of social media and instant gratification, it can feel discouraging when your efforts aren’t met with the likes, views, or followers you expect.
But what if I told you the key to long-term success isn’t in the numbers, but in showing up consistently and enjoying the process?
As a content creator and a woman who’s constantly evolving, I know the struggle.
But I also know the power of showing up when no one is watching.

Here’s how I’ve learned to embrace the early stages of any journey—whether it’s building a business, creating content, or following my dreams—and how you can too.
Reframe Your Mindset to Appreciate the Journey
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that the early stages of any venture are about the journey, not the destination.
It’s easy to get caught up in the ego-driven desire for a million subscribers or viral views, but I’ve been trying to shift my focus away from numbers.
Instead, I remind myself to enjoy the process and appreciate the little wins. For example, if one person watches my video, that’s a victory!

While it’s easy to become obsessed with the idea of instant success, reframing your mind to see value in the process can make the journey more fulfilling.
It’s important to remember that we live in an amazing time, where all we need is a phone and an internet connection to share our stories with the world.
The fact that we can create content that can be viewed on the other side of the world is incredible. So, why not enjoy the ride and savour those small milestones along the way?
If you need some help to embody your magic, I created the perfect self love course to ignite the goddess in you ✨“Unleash Your Wild Feminine” ✨
Focus on Your ‘Why’
When things get tough, the key to staying on track is remembering why you started in the first place.

For me, the driving force behind showing up consistently is to connect, share stories, and build a community.
It’s not about becoming an overnight sensation, but about creating something meaningful and staying true to my mission.
On days when I feel discouraged or tired, I come back to my purpose: why am I doing this? This helps me refocus and push forward, even when it feels like no one is watching.
If you’re feeling stuck or questioning your journey, I encourage you to revisit your ‘why.’ Your purpose will keep you going, especially when the results aren’t immediate.
Embrace the Process Over the Outcome
For those of us who are used to instant gratification (and I include myself, especially with my ADHD), focusing on the long-term process can be difficult.

I’m all about short-term wins, and waiting for long-term results isn’t always my natural instinct. However, I’ve come to realize that the process is what shapes us.
Rather than obsessing over how many people like my content or follow my journey, I choose to focus on other metrics that show progress.
For example, tracking how many people my Instagram account has reached or how many comments I’ve received on my videos helps me see the impact I’m making in real time.

When we focus on how we are growing, rather than the number of people who are noticing it right away, we’re able to find joy in the process itself.
Shift Your Focus from Numbers to Real Engagement
It’s easy to get caught up in the likes, followers, and views—especially in today’s social media-driven world. But what really matters is the real connection.

I’m learning to put less emphasis on how many views my videos or posts get, and more emphasis on the meaningful engagement I’m receiving.
It’s the comments, messages, and interactions that show me I’m making a real impact. I’ve found that connecting with real people—rather than focusing solely on vanity metrics—helps me stay motivated.
The engagement that feels real, like a personal comment or a direct message, is what fuels me to keep showing up.
Invest in Your Growth and Skill Development
Another way to stay motivated during the early stages is by focusing on your growth rather than just the outcome.

Every time I create a video or a post, I challenge myself to improve.
Whether it’s learning how to better craft a story, improve my editing skills, or develop a more effective way of presenting myself, I aim to improve with each new piece of content.
And guess what?
I’ve definitely noticed my progress.
Looking back at older videos, I can see how far I’ve come. It’s exciting to watch yourself grow and develop.
So, I focus on building my skills and learning something new each day, because improvement keeps me invested in the long-term journey.

Reframe Your Perspective: Focus on What You Can Control
One of the most powerful practices I’ve adopted is reframing my perspective on the things I can and can’t control.
I can’t control how many people will watch my content, but I can control the quality of the content I create.
I can’t control who follows me on Instagram, but I can control how often I show up, the connections I make, and the value I provide to my community.
Reframing is about looking at every situation with a glass-half-full mentality.

Instead of focusing on what I haven’t achieved, I focus on what I can improve and what I’m already doing well.
It’s not about toxic positivity, but rather about shifting your mindset to focus on the aspects you can control.
This brings you peace and motivation, especially when the results aren’t as instant as you’d like.
Final Thoughts
Showing up when no one is watching isn’t easy. It requires persistence, patience, and a strong sense of purpose.

But it’s also incredibly rewarding. As I continue to grow, I am learning that enjoying the process, connecting with real people, and investing in my skills are the things that keep me going.
If you’re starting something new and feeling discouraged by the lack of instant success, remember this: your early efforts matter.
The process matters. And every small step forward is still progress.
Keep showing up, even when it feels like no one is watching, because you are building something that is worth it.

Feminine embodiment & Self Love Practice
I created my “Unleash your Feminine Power” to help you really start diving into your own unique power.

In this course, you will learn to connect with your body through some very sensual movements.
There is no fancy choreography to worry about. I really wanted to make this as simple as possible.
The goal is to give you a somatic practice that you can implement into your daily routine in order to start embodying your authentic self.

It is high time we start prioritizing our relationship with our own body too.
Because in order to be truly happy and content in life, I really believe you need to strike for a balance.
That means feeding your soul, your heart, your body.

And this is the goal of my ” Unleash your Feminine Power“.
The beautiful thing is that once you start getting in touch with that fire within, it only grows from there.
This energy will go on to light up your path, simultaneously guiding you through life.
So in a way, it is your own inner guiding compass. 💕

Women Self Love Wellness Retreat
I am so passionate about women empowerment. Everything I do is based on this. I want to see more women embrace their authentic selves. Trust me life gets so much better.
That’s the main focus of my self love women retreat. In this Wellness retreat, we go deep. I really love to connect with my fellow sisters.
That’s why I only do small groups of 10-12 women.

This retreat is an invitation to embody your feminine and to dive into radical self love. Growth and shedding past limiting beliefs is the focal point.
We do this through various workshops, wellness practices such as breath work and lots of somatic movement.

As a dance teacher, of course we will also be using the power of dance and music to process, release and shed things that are holding us back so we can be born again.
Welcome to our transformational retreat where the focus is all on YOU.
Not only that, but we do it in style and comfort.

Our next retreat is in a breathtaking villa on the beautiful island of Gozo Malta. We will be staying in our own private villa.
And did I mention our own private chef? with our own private pool 🤭.

It is the perfect time to slow down and prioritize yourself.
Also, don’t forget to stay in touch for my Bali self love women wellness retreat, for pure feminine embodiment and lots of dancing also.
