20+ Best Things to Do in Mykonos, Greece

February 14, 2023

Mykonos Island in Greece is unique in so many ways. Yes it is true that is has a party reputation. You will find one of the best parties in Mykonos.

A good thing is that the party can get as classy or sophisticated as you like. But Mykonos offers more than just parties.

This island will blow your mind with its pristine beaches and amazing food. After falling in love with Mykonos, here are my recommended top things to do in Mykonos on your visit.

The Iconic Windmills

1. Check out the obligatory Mykonos Windmills of Chora

You know exactly what I am talking about here πŸ™‚

These pictures that are on every single brochure. If Santorini has the white house with the blue dome by the caldera, well Mykonos has the iconic windmills by the sea.

Not going to lie but they are a delight to see and you can even choose to stay in a windmill if you fancy.

No it wont be the famous ones by the water but there are a few windmills around the island that have been adapted as guesthouses.

2. Get lost in the narrow streets of Mykonos Town

Mykonos town is such a charming little place. It is in the same area as little Venice waterfront.

I absolutely recommend you just get lost in the little streets and soak up the vibe. Every street looks like it came straight out of a drawing with their colorful flowers.

4. Have a drink or Party in Little Venice

Little Venice is such a charming place. After you check out the windmills, just keep walking down towards the sea and you will end up in Little Venice.

You can grab a seat and a drink there while doing some people watching.

You can head to Mykonos Town viewpoint or pretty much anytime you find yourself driving upwards on the island, just find a safe spot to park so you can have a nice view over the waterfront.

6. Check out the Chic town of Ornos

This is our favorite area to stay in Mykonos. This neighborhood is so peaceful, classy and also has its own beautiful beachΒ  along with some of the best dining on the island.

Think about it as a chic and small “resort” area but without the tackiness.

7. Have a fancy meal in the luxurious Ornos Town

Some of the best meals we’ve had was in Ornos. You can’t really go wrong. Just stroll along, read their menus and go with the one that strikes your fancy.

You can choose from luxury fusion dining, to international or no frills local traditional cuisine.

8. Spend a day in Paradise beach Club

This beach will blow your mind away. Expect the bluest shade of blue and some nice sand. One thing I find incredible is that although this beach is world famous, it still manages to retain a peaceful vibe even with the ongoing parties.

They do a good job catering to different crowds. Most importantly, they are super down to earth with an amazing hospitality.

One of the best things to do in the waterfront. Relax with a glass of sangria and do nothing else but people watching.

13. Visit the charming village of Ano Mera

Get away from the tourists and head to Ano Mera village. It is only 15 minutes away from Mykonos town but has a different vibe. There’s still plenty of shops, cafΓ©s and tavernas.

14. Go Wine Tasting

Discover the wines of Mykonos by booking a wine tour. It is a lovely relaxing way to spend your day all while exploring the local culture.

15. Get active and go Kayaking around the island

The pristine waters of Mykonos make for a fantastic kayaking trip. You get such a clear view that you can see some fish while kayaking.

17. Spend a day at Sea with a Boat tour

You can’t go wrong with a boat tour. There are plenty of boat tours to choose from in Mykonos. Most will also come with lunch and drinks.

All you have to do is show up and have a good time.

18. Day tour to a nearby island

Personally, I think it might be a bit rushed to try to visit another island like Santorini on a day tour. But if you are spending a long time in Mykonos and are up for the challenge, it can be done.

Check out the ferries timetables in order to coordinate your day.

19. Indulge and Eat all the food

The food is one reason why we love going to Greece so much. Especially if you love seafood like I do, then you can’t really go wrong with any of these Cyclades islands.

Expect fresh seafood, paired with amazing wines and what else does one need?

20. Go crazy for the cat models

I absolutely go crazy for cats but the Greek cats and especially the Mykonos cats are on another level of cuteness.

The residents dress them up with the cutest scarves and bows. And they just stand there and let you take their pictures. Funniest cats ever πŸ™‚

So have fun, bring your camera and be a cat photographer for a day.
