11 Reasons to Go to Milos for Your Next Greek Vacation
When it comes to Greece, our mind automatically wanders towards Santorini and Mykonos. But let me tell you about this little charming island called Milos.
Milos is absolutely worth going to and it will take your breath away in so many ways. Without further ado, allow me to present to you Milos along with 11 reasons why you should definitely plan a trip there as soon as you can.

- Milos is one of the most idyllic island in the Cyclades
Greece is blessed with beautiful islands, charming weather and perfect beaches. These islands are categorized in different clusters. One of those clusters are called the Cyclades.
Even if you’ve probably never heard of the name Cyclades before, chances are that you’ve still been exposed to it somehow. The Cyclades islands group in the Aegean sea also includes world famous islands such as Santorini, Mykonos, Ios Island, Naxos and Paros. The Cyclades tends to be the focus for island hopping in the Greek islands due to its unique jaw-dropping beauty.

- So many quiet and postcard worthy charming towns
Now the good thing about choosing Milos is that it is still extremely accessible. It is only a two hour ferry ride away from Santorini and about three hour away from Mykonos. The best thing is that although it is so close to those famous islands, Milos is still relatively under the radar. This is a great perk for those who choose to visit Milos.
This means that you won’t have to deal with the crazy madness of the Santorini crowd. You will get rewarded with beautiful beaches and scenery with an unpretentious vibe. All this while feeling like you have the island almost all to yourself.

- One of the most beautiful beaches you will ever see
Most of the Cyclades islands have amazing beaches. But Milos is said to have one of the best beaches in the region. After the ones I’ve seen, I can definitely vouch for this. If it is stunning beaches you are after, you will not be disappointed.

- The Hospitality of the Local Residents
One thing that immediately stood out for me when it comes to Milos, is the hospitality of the people. I think the fact that Milos isn’t as busy as said Santorini or Mykonos has something to do with this. The residents aren’t jaded by tourism.
They seem genuinely happy and delighted that you chose to visit their beautiful island. You can definitely expect a warm welcome and great hospitality.

- Very small and cozy
This will allow you to get through the island without feeling overwhelmed. Planning a beach hopping holiday? Milos is perfect for that. From east to West, the island only measures about 23km.
But hold your horses before you go thinking that you could circumvent the whole island in an hour. Driving the main road isn’t the most difficult but keep in mind that sometimes the roads are very tiny and hilly.
Still don’t let this discourage you at all because Milos still makes for one of the best islands for a weekend getaway.

- Beach with moon landscape: Sarakiniko
This is the main reason why I went to Milos. Yes, Sarakiniko is a perfect reason to convince you to go to Milos. Expect for your mouth to drop to the floor as you will wonder how this place even exists on earth.
I do not retouch my travel photos because I want you to get a realistic idea of what to expect on your trip.
And yes ladies and gentlemen, as long as it is a clear sunny day, this picture is exactly what you will see in front of your eyes on your trip to Sarakiniko beach. The rock formation is out of this world and you will feel like you’ve just landed on the moon.

- Stunning Sunsets
Wherever you go in Greece, whether it is Santorini or Mykonos, each local resident takes tremendous pleasure telling you how much their island has the true best sunset in the whole of Greece.
This conversation never fails to warm my heart inside. Well, I’ll let you be the judge of that.
Although we’ve all seen the amazing sunsets on those Santorini brochures, best believe that Milos sunsets are just as spectacular.

- Greek Islands without the mass tourism
The Cyclades is a high traffic area in the Aegean sea. However, like I said before, you won’t feel any of this by going to Milos. Milos is a small charming island that retains its character and forces you to slow down.

- The Food
Want amazing seafood at a fraction of the price? Look no further. I still remember the mouth watering octopus we had in the small port village of Astakas Cafe Restaurant.

- Boat Trips & World Class Island Hopping
Yes, Milos is packed with world class pristine beaches. The only thing is that a lot of them require you to do a bit of off-roading.
There are still a few that are mainly accessible via the sea. So this definitely gives you one more reason to hire a boat or take a boat tour. You will be in for an amazing day of island hopping from one turquoise beach to another.

- Photogenic Cats
You’d have to be living under a rock not to be aware of the crazy cat obsession that has taken all over social media and the internet. I’m happy to tell you that if you love cats, you will be in for a treat. Milos is packed with charming cats.
They are so photogenic as they walk against the colorful backdrops. If you’re lucky, some will even stop and pose for you and demand to be petted.
