Yoga in Milos: White Moon Scenery of Mandrakia
Where are all my yogis at? Ok I will be honest, I am not a yogi per se but I always look for unique experiences when I travel to places.
And I just could not pass on this out of this world Yoga journey right in the white moon scenery of the beautiful fishing village of Madrakia.
Yes, I know! There are so many things to do in the tiny little island of Milos. You’d probably rather be at one of Milos’s 70 something beaches. But I promise you, you absolutely DO NOT want to miss this yoga journey experience.
Choose a day in your calendar and pencil it in. Make sure you book this experience as it will be one of the highlight of your time in Milos.
Now let me give you all the info you need for your own magical time.

About Yoga Journey Milos & How to Book
Milos is home to quite a few yoga retreats. It doesn’t take long to see why that is. The place is a haven and is simply beaming with amazing relaxing scenery at every corner one turns.
However not everyone wants to commit to a multi-day yoga retreat and this is one of the reasons that make this experience so valuable.
Yoga Journey Milos is a small yoga practice run by the beautiful Evi and her husband. Evi is a young local Greek lady who is an actual resident of Milos.
She gives the Yoga classes and her husband is also available for massages as I believe he is a massage therapist.
It’s very easy to book. You can simply go on her website. I recommend you do so the second you have your Milos dates confirmed just to avoid any disappointment. When we were there, we were the only ones to book the time slot.
If you cannot get a time with her, there are a few other groups also offering some yoga time in the same location.
I really appreciated that she still went ahead and ran the class as so many other people would just cancel and require a minimum attendance to run the program. This way we ended up having a a private time with just the two of us and Evi.
If you know for sure that you wouldn’t like to be in a group setting, I recommend letting her know and scheduling a private session.

How to get to Madrakia Fishing Village for Your Yoga Practice?
Milos is a relatively small town and as a result, public transportation isn’t the best and does not cover the whole island.
It would take you forever to attempt to come here by public transportation. I don’t even recall seeing any buses outside of the main Adamas port area.
That’s why I recommend renting a car or ATV in order to make the most of your trip. It gets a bit windy on the road so I’m not sure how comfortable a scooter would be but it’s probably also doable.
Worst case, you could hire a taxi for the duration you need it. Just make sure that the taxi waits for you or if you plan to stay at the beach, see if you can settle on a pick up time with the driver to come get you back.
Please note that this wouldn’t be the cheapest route but it’s another option.

What to expect ? How long it lasts & What to Bring? What about Prices?
The experience couldn’t be any easier. Once you book it, all you have to do is show up. Evi brings everything such as the yoga mats and supportive blocks.
You’re only required to bring yourself along with a towel, a hat if you’d like, some water to hydrate and comfortable shoes to walk on the rocks.
Once you arrive in Madrakia, you can park your car and walk towards the church. There is only a small main road so you can’t get lost.
Evi, the yoga instructor will wait for you there. The total duration is around 90min. This includes approximately 10 min to walk back and forth to the location and set up the mats.
The actual Hatha practice is around 50 minutes. I remember he experience costing around 90$-100$ for the both of us plus extra tip at the end.
No need to worry about what to wear really. Just dress comfortably same as you would for a regular yoga or exercise session back home. We went there late September and the weather was perfect.
Yes there was a cool breeze but it definitely wasn’t cold as you can see down below, I was still dressed in summer attire.
Being surrounded by the sea and hearing the waves crash against the white rocks was one of the most simplistic yet magical moment of our vacation.
Then you will also get the pleasure of watching the sun sets as you’re focusing on your breath. Wow! This was such a pleasure!

What type of Yoga is it? Is it Strenuous or more relaxing ?
The practice is focus on Hatha Yoga Flow. Like I said before, I’m not necessary a yogi but if I had to describe it in common terms, I’d say it was a little bit challenging but not strenuous.
It’s not quite a lazy stretching session but it’s the perfect mix of moving your body and holding various positions while working on your breath.
For someone like myself who does Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it was more on the low intensity scale. I would still definitely recommend the experience.

What if you’ve never done Yoga before ( first timer)?
Don’t fret!
So I’d say, if you’re a first timer, give it a try. The scenery alone was definitely worth the experience for him. Plus Evi, the instructor, is very receptive and will guide you throughout the whole time. She always had alternatives to follow along at your own pace.
This is another reason why it was so nice to be the only ones there as all her attention was on us, especially on the newbie 🙂
What makes it so special? Does it really look like a white moon scenery?
Yes it does! While Evi, our sweet yoga instructor was really perfect, I am pretty sure that the scenery had a major impact on our overall experience. The second you arrive there, you can’t stop pinching yourself and wondering whether or not you’re still on planet Earth.
The white rock looks similar to Sarakiniko Beach which should also be in your top things to do in Milos by the way 🙂

Is there anything else to do in Mandrakia fishing village?
Madrakia is a very small fishing village with just a small tiny main road. But there is still plenty to do.
You could literally stay there and spend time at the Madrakia Beach ( pictures at the beginning of current post). You can even rent out one of the cute little fishing houses.
Lastly, you could spend the evening there and eat at the fabulous restaurant Medusa, right by the water.
